TAVOLINO ALL’ APERTO Coffee Table-Seating Bench by Alessandro Mendini from BISAZZA (Limited Edition, 2008)
Yet another inspired creation from the master Alessandro Mendini is the TAVOLINO ALL’ APERTO Coffee Table-Seating Bench, made of fiberglass and covered by mosaic work from the Italian manufacturer BISAZZA, the world leader in artistic mosaics.
The TAVOLINO ALL’ APERTO Coffee Table-Seating Bench (H 40 cm x L 163 cm x W 93 cm) is a 2008 Limited Edition design (8 Pieces + 2 A.P. + 2 Prototypes) and, as its name suggests, is suitable also for outdoor use. All pieces are numbered and signed and are available from the well-respected Galerie Kreo in Paris, France.

BISAZZA is the leader of the glass mosaics industry for decoration of interior and outdoor spaces and, at the same time, belongs to the select group of luxury design brands internationally. As of 2005, the Company is officially a member of ALTAGAMMA, an association created to promote the premium Italian brands.
BISAZZA was established in 1956 by Renato Bisazza in Alte, in the province of Vicenza (Northern Italy). At the time, mosaics were more of a commodity industry. Being a visionary, Renato Bisazza set out to raise mosaic decoration to an art and, at the same time, modernize production from the artisanal practices of the past to the fully automated processes of today.
In 1980 he offered the position of Design Director to Alessandro Mendini who notably declared that “with a single tile you can cover the world” and actively helped steer BISAZZA into creating masterpieces through collaborations with leading figures in architecture, design, art and fashion such as (in alphabetical order): Tord Boontje, Marco Braga, Aldo Cibic, Antonio Citterio, Sandro Chia, Carlo Dal Bianco, Romeo Gigli, Stefano Giovannoni, René González, Michael Graves, Jaime Hayon, Isao Hosoe, Jürgen Mayer-Hermann, Alessandro Mendini, Paola Navone, Nendo, Fabio Novembre, Fabrizio Plessi, Andrée Putman, Ettore Sottsass, Studio Job, Patricia Urquiola, Patricia Viel, Edward Van Vliet and Marcel Wanders.
At the same time, Renato Bisazza continued feverishly to expand his business and gradually built a well-respected international profile for BISAZZA.
In 2000, the leadership of the Company passed to Piero Bisazza, the son of Renato Bisazza who has, ever since, focused all his efforts on elevating BISAZZA to a premium luxury mosaics brand and on building further on BISAZZA’s international reputation.
Under the guidance of Piero Bisazza, the Company setup a distribution network comprising of 13 Flagship Stores (in Antwerp, Barcelona, Berlin, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, Miami, Milan, Moscow, New York, Paris, Rome and Tokyo) and 5.000 Local Retailers internationally (including Shops-in-Shops and Corners).
In 2002, Rossella Bisazza (sister of Piero Bisazza) joined BISAZZA as the new Director of Communications following a very successful 12-year career as a professional ballet dancer at La Scala of Milano.
In 2004, the Company assigned architect Carlo Dal Bianco with the responsibility of establishing the Bisazza Design Studio which he continued to direct until 2011. This was the culmination of an existing collaboration between BISAZZA and Carlo Dal Bianco on a number of projects such as various mosaics decorations, the design of all 13 Flagship Stores of the brand and the refurbishment of BISAZZA’s Headquarters which, subsequently, served also as the base for the BISAZZA Foundation.
In 2006, the Company introduced its Home Collection, the first furniture and home accessories collection in the world made of mosaic and other luxury materials.
In 2011, BISAZZA extended its brand by creating the Bisazza Bagno Division, dedicated to the production and marketing of bathroom related luxury products to private and high-end contract customers as well as to the hotel sector.
Finally, in 2012, Piero & Rossella Bisazza founded the BISAZZA FOUNDATION FOR DESIGN & CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE born out of the love and passion of the entire Bisazza family for design and architecture.
The BISAZZA FOUNDATION is a private non-profit organization that serves as an open-to-the public cultural venue & exhibition space dedicated to contemporary design and architecture (not exclusively related to mosaics).
