MILLIONAIRE Safe Box from the Private Collection of Portugal’s BOCA DO LOBO
This is the MILLIONAIRE Safe Box from the Private Collection of the Portuguese manufacturer BOCA DO LOBO. Yet, to our eyes, it is so beautiful that we would also recommend it as a Cabinet or, simply, as an exquisite work of Art for your living room or your professional space (provided you have the money to spare, of course …).
The MILLIONAIRE is a Safe Box with a wooden structure, lined with polished brass, turning brass handles and silver-plated wheels. Later on, BOCA DO LOBO released also the MILLIONAIRE SILVER edition. Its opening system works with a combination of a secret code (rotation system). The interior is furnished with a set of drawers and a door with a separately closing system. Its lateral walls are lined with hand-sewn fabric. Custom sizes and colors are available with an upcharge.
Below you can watch a brief video presentation of the MILLIONAIRE Safe Box by BOCA DO LOBO:
In 2013, BOCA DO LOBO added the MILLIONAIRE WATCH WINDERS edition to its MILLIONAIRE Safe Box series:

In March 2014, BOCA DO LOBO introduced one more edition of its MILLIONAIRE Series with the MILLIONAIRE TABLE TOP Safe Box-Jewelry Case:
Marco Costa was born on January 27, 1987 in Aveiro, about 80 Km south of Oporto in Portugal. As a young child he used to draw on the walls of his parents’ house, destroy his sister’s dolls to “create” things and, in general, never missed a chance to show his artistic side. Marco also learned a lot about craftsmanship and doing things with his own hands by observing and working close to his father, who was an artisan of metallic objects.
In 2004, when he finished school and despite his inclination for the arts, he chose to study science. He soon realized, though, that he should follow his passion. So he started studying at the Arts and Design University at Coimbra, Portugal, from which he graduated in 2009.
In March 2009, during the last year of his studies, he did an internship at BOCA DO LOBO and seven months later, in October, he was promoted to Creative Director of the Company. In 2010 he gained international recognition for his PIXEL Cabinet.
He says that he is fascinated by “emotional design” – the design of an object in such a way that it provides a unique emotional experience. He is also very keen on designing and creating objects in very close co-operation with artisans. He says: “Working directly with master artisans full of knowledge is very important for me. It allows me to combine this ancient knowledge with contemporary design. Besides, as I love a great challenge, working with these forgotten techniques excites me every day of my life.” This is why he is particularly happy working and creating for BOCA DO LOBO, where he is able to do both.
He explains: “I like creating modern furniture with a traditional and classical touch. I love the Baroque period and I am deeply inspired by minimalistic design. Arts and Crafts techniques have always interested me and all of my works are inspired by styles that mix old and new, modern and antique. I love studying manual techniques that here, in BOCA DO LOBO, we strive to recover.”
Marco Costa is now omnipresent in the new designs of BOCA DO LOBO. Additionally, he works on architectural and interior design projects in private residences in Oporto, Lisbon and Algarve.
BOCA DO LOBO was established in 2005 in Rio Tinto, Portugal (about 22 Km northeast of Oporto). Their objective was clear: to become the best in furniture design and production. Indeed, within a matter of few years, BOCA DO LOBO has managed to create some of the most exclusive and beautiful design furniture in the world and is now known as the “jeweler” of furniture design.
Under the umbrella of the MENINA DESIGN GROUP, the Company forms part of a larger entity related to home furnishings and decoration which, apart from BOCA DO LOBO itself, includes companies such as BRABBU, DELIGHTFULL, KOKET and various other services brands related to the design, furniture & home furnishings sector.
The BOCA DO LOBO vision can be summarized in the following statement: “Furniture is an exclusive emotional experience, a sense of belonging and a state of mind. We strive to encourage sensational experiences by creating beautiful pieces which are passionately inspired and handcrafted in Portugal by a staff that loves what they do; experiences which pass on the feeling of exclusivity. Our designers possess an undeniable talent for composing pieces which stir emotion in their admirers. Our artisan’s wisdom, accumulated from years of experience, is instilled with love and dedication in the art that they perform. No detail or element is overlooked as we offer the best at the frontier between design and art. Each piece will bring you on a journey to sources of pleasure you may have forgotten, and take you to places you have never been before; a journey to BOCA DO LOBO world – a world of emotions.”
In the words of Amândio Pereira, co-Founder & CEO of BOCA DO LOBO and the MENINA DESIGN GROUP: “Our clients want an experience. We design for surprise and to move them. It’s like a culture.” At BOCA DO LOBO they say “expect the unexpected” and, indeed, this is what we feel each time we see one of their creations for the first time (and maybe even for the second or third time …). The blending of exquisite original design with prime quality materials and the passion of traditional artisans coupled with modern manufacturing techniques make their creations timeless and worthy of museum collections.
In its early days all of the designs of the Coolors, Soho and Limited Edition Collections were created by Portuguese designer Pedro Sousa, who was also one of the co-creators of the brand and, in parallel, was involved in the development of its corporate image and advertising campaigns.
As of 2009, the creative guidance of the Company rests with the new Head Designer Marco Costa who, despite his relative youth, has a keen eye for design and an amazing talent for designing some of the most unusual, high quality furniture we have seen for some time. He loves to investigate the notions of perspective and distortion of form through his sculptural furniture pieces.
Currently, BOCA DO LOBO creations can be found in their showroom in Oporto, Portugal or through furniture distributors and exclusive boutiques internationally (as of February 6th, 2014 their creations are also showcased at Harrods Design Studio, in the most exclusive department store in the world). Some of their pieces are also on display at the Hotel Infante Sagres in Oporto (BOCA DO LOBO have decorated one of its suites). In addition, the Company is participating in a number of furniture and design fairs worldwide.
