TOTAL FLIGHTCASE Sideboard-Credenza-Buffet from DIESEL & MOROSO (“Successful Living from DIESEL” Collection, 2009)
The TOTAL FLIGHTCASE Sideboard-Credenza-Buffet was designed and manufactured by DIESEL and the Italian furniture manufacturer MOROSO, as part of their joint “Successful Living from DIESEL with MOROSO” Collection (2009).
The TOTAL FLIGHTCASE Storage Unit was inspired by the trunks/travel cases used by musicians to carry their instruments when on tour. It is available in a 2-door or 3-door version in black (blackboard), white, white concrete and electric blue colors. The main material is laminated plywood while its frame is in extruded aluminium.
The “Successful Living from DIESEL” Collection is a co-operation of DIESEL with MOROSO (on furniture), FOSCARINI (on lighting/lamps) and ZUCCHI (on textiles). The Collection was first presented in the Milano Salone del Mobile in 2009 and it is continuously updated since then, with the latest additions having been presented in 2013.
Specifically for the furniture part of the Collection (“Successful Living from DIESEL with MOROSO” Collection), DIESEL and MOROSO have created a Collection of products with a relaxed and comfortable mood, taking its inspiration from an informal lifestyle concept and targeting consumers who like simple shapes yet, at the same time, seek a “modern” style made up of high quality combined with a distinctive design of pure lines.
DIESEL was founded in 1978 by fresh-out-of-college Renzo Piano with the aim of becoming a leader in the casual clothing market. Its founder wanted the company to be bold, take risks and create its own space in this field with innovative and simple design and a philosophy of addressing the market with a uniform product under one language.
So he employed young, talented and creative people and gave them ample space to design clothes that break free of the rules that the traditional fashion industry dictated at the time.
Today DIESEL is one of the most successful international design companies in the world, marketing a host of different product lines from casual clothing and jeans to accessories, fragrances, eyewear, watches, jewelry, a home collection with furniture, lighting & textiles and much more. It is active in over 80 countries worldwide with almost 50 company-owned stores and more than 10.000 points of sales.
DIESEL is headquartered in Breganze (Northeast Italy) and operates 12 subsidiaries worldwide with over 1,300 employees, with its annual turnover exceeding USD 300 million. Most of DIESEL’s production is outsourced to other small and medium-sized companies in Italy and internationally while most of its supporting operations (e.g. logistics) being handled centrally from the main offices of the Company.
MOROSO has been working in close collaboration with some of the world’s most talented designers to produce luxury sofas and seating since 1952. It is, indeed, one of the top 10 most forward-thinking and innovative furniture manufacturers worldwide.
Today the Company is headed by the second generation of the Moroso family (Roberto Moroso, the CEO, and Patrizia Moroso, the Art Director) and is an example of how a small Italian artisan-owner company has evolved since it was run until the 90s by Agostino Moroso. The Company has always been open to new ideas, from its origins in post-war Italy where there was a culture of “doing things and doing them well.” MOROSO has been farsighted, daring and certain of the advantage of combining craftsmanship and tailoring with industrial processing techniques to create unique products and by drawing on the worlds of industrial design, contemporary art and fashion.
As Patrizia Moroso points out: “The story of Moroso is the story of our relationships with designers, people who, with intelligence and with the passion which always inspires artists in the face of beauty, are trying to change the world for the better. I ask them not to imagine a single object, but to imagine a new world and project it into the future.”
